It was a wednesday, 20-Nov, at the barn in lovely downtown Scottsville, where a few hundred fans were on hand to catch a glimpse of the 2009-2010 Greece Athena/Odyssey Thunder Hockey team visiting in purple for a pre-season scrimmage with the Rush Henrietta Comets. Sophomore Ian Cumming got the nod for the first half between the pipes and away we go. Thunder gave up the first goal midway through the first half, when a comet got loose in front and banged home the rebound off a powerplay blast from the point by RH Captain Joey Perkins. But Thunder would counter before the break, as senior forward Matt Lerch buried a feed from behind the comet's goal compliments of some gritty work by junior forward Andrew Sherry.
Cumming passed the baton to sophomore Andrew Simonelli for the second half in the nets, which saw RH rally on a face-off to his left, but the rest was all Thunder. We rolled 4 lines to give everyone a look and go figure, it was rookie nite, as freshman Jonathan Clark coiled up a wrister from the blueline that would find its way through traffic and into the back of the net to even things up at 2s. Then the fourth line forwards went to work, with sophomore Curran O'Brien and freshman Anthony (AC) Crawford hammering away at the Comet's keeper, before freshman Keenan Mahoney put'r away for the eventual GWG.
Felt good to be back in the stands, but something was missing. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, until i got to the tub Saturday nite and saw JR and realized there wasn't a single uttering of the traditional, Yeah ThunDerrrrrrrr cheer! Although, apparently a similar cheer can now be heard when the Buffalo Junior Sabres (Yeah SaaayBrrrrrrrs!) or Geneseo Blue Knights (Yeah BlueKnightiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiies) take the ice!
See everyone this Wednesday, 5:15pm at the shore, for a pre-thanksgiving feast with AQ. Pass me the Irish-turkey. Oh yeah, and don't forget to set your alarms for the 9am breakfast tilt with Hilton, where thunder is sure to put a few more biscuits in the basket. Happy Thanksgiving :)
